Troubleshooting Page Building Issues

What to do when changes are not applying, updates are failing, or the editor isn't responding as expected.

Overview

If your changes are not showing up on the canvas, AI edits are failing silently, or updates appear to apply but then revert, this guide walks you through the most common causes and fixes.

Changes Not Appearing on the Canvas

If you make a change via the AI chat but do not see it reflected on the canvas:

  1. 1.Wait a moment - Larger changes (adding new sections, generating images) can take a few seconds to render. Give the editor time to finish processing.
  2. 2.Check the chat output - Look at the AI chat response. If it says the change was made, the canvas preview may need a moment to refresh. Try scrolling the canvas or clicking elsewhere.
  3. 3.Hard-refresh the canvas - Click the reload/refresh button in the editor toolbar to force the canvas to reload without losing your changes.
  4. 4.Restart the sandbox - Right-click the reload button in the top right section of the editor and select Restart Sandbox. This resets the build environment and often resolves stuck states.

AI Chat Responds but No Changes Are Made

If the AI chat acknowledges your request but nothing changes on the page:

  1. 1.Be more specific - Vague prompts like "improve the hero" can result in the agent deciding no change is needed. Try describing the exact element and desired outcome: "Change the hero headline to say 'Build pages 10x faster'".
  2. 2.Select the element first - Click the element you want to change on the canvas before sending your message. This gives the agent precise context about what to modify.
  3. 3.Check if you are on the right page - Use the Pages menu (top left) to confirm you are editing the intended page.

Updates Failing or Returning Errors

If the AI chat returns an error or the change fails to apply:

  1. 1.Retry the message - Click the retry button on the failed message. Transient issues often resolve on the second attempt.
  2. 2.Simplify the request - Break complex multi-step requests into smaller individual changes. For example, instead of "redesign the entire page", try "update the hero section" first.
  3. 3.Restart the sandbox - Right-click the reload button in the editor and select Restart Sandbox to clear any errored build state.
  4. 4.Undo and retry - If a partial change was applied before the error, use the Undo button in the editor toolbar to revert and then try again with a cleaner state.

For general unknown error guidance, see Troubleshooting Unknown Errors.

Changes Reverting After Refresh

If your changes disappear after refreshing the editor:

  1. 1.Check if the change was fully applied - Look at the AI chat history. If the last message was cut off or shows a partial response, the change may not have been committed.
  2. 2.Avoid refreshing mid-edit - Refreshing the browser while the agent is still processing a change can cause that change to be lost. Wait for the agent to finish before refreshing.
  3. 3.Contact support - If changes are consistently lost after refresh, contact support@tryflint.com with your page URL and a description of what you were editing.

Specific Elements Not Responding to Edits

If a particular element on the page cannot be changed via direct editing or AI chat:

  • Try describing it differently - Reference the element by its visual role: "the headline in the top hero section" rather than a generic description.
  • Use direct editing - Click the element directly on the canvas to enter inline edit mode for text and images.
  • Ask via chat with context - Click the element first to select it, then send your change request. The selection gives the agent precise targeting information.

Still Having Issues?

If none of the above steps resolve your issue, contact support@tryflint.com with:
