Located at the mouth of the St. John River on the Bay of Fundy, in St. John County, the city of Saint John is Canada's oldest incorporated city. It was founded by the United Empire Loyalists and received its charter in 1785. Compiled from original federal documents in the National Archives of Canada, this database is an index of census records for county residents in 1901, particularly those in the specified wards of Saint John City. Each record provides the resident's name, birthplace, and relationship to the head of household. Film, district/ward, page, entry, and family numbers are also provided to help researchers obtain the original record, if desired. This update includes the following wards: F-Queen's, G-Sydney, H-Wellington, I-Dufferin, containing the names of over 14,363 individuals, in addition to the following wards: A-Brooks, B-Duke's, C-Guy's, D-King's, and E-Prince.
