Manley S. Rowley, Pioneer Realty Man, Dies Here

Manley Silas Rowley, pioneer Madison real estate man, died this morning at the home of his son, Leslie B. Rowley, 904 Oakland Ave., at the age of 75. Death resulted from a complication of nervous diseases and erysipelas.

Mr. Rowley and his wife, Julia M. Rowley, had only recently returned from Florida where they have their winter home.

Mr. Rowley was born in Shoreham, Vermont, May 25, 1842. He was married at Niles, Michigan, in 1864, to Julia M. Brooks, a daughter of Abiel E. Brooks, late of this city. He served thru the civil war as a lieutenant and as major of the Eleventh Michigan Cavalry. He was in the battle of Shiloh and in several other important engagements of the war.

Mr. Rowley conducted an office in the Tenney block for more than twenty years prior to his retirement from business in 1908.

Mr. Rowley is survived by his wife Julia M. Rowley, his sons, Leslie B. Rowley of this city, and Eugene C. Rowley of Washington, D. C., and a daughter Grace M. Whitcomb of Milwaukee.

The funeral will be private. Complete arrangements have not as yet been announced.
