DEATHS
LEXINGTON -- Florence Popp, 86, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in
MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.
She was born October 2, 1916, in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, to
Samuel and Minnie Hankey Rowley, and was graduated from Elderton
(Pennsylvania) High School.
Florence earned her teacher's certificate from Indiana State Teachers
College in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and began her teaching career at the
age of 19, in a one-room schoolhouse in Plum Creek Township, Armstrong
County, Pennsylvania, even stoking the coal stove herself.
She later completed her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at
Ashland University in 1957 and completed her 32-year career, retiring in
1980 from Mansfield City Schools with 23 years of service.
She moved to the Mansfield area in 1954 from Trumbull County.
A member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, Florence had formerly served
the church as elder and choir member.
Florence loved to sing and play the piano, and had a keen appreciation
for music. She was a thirty-year member of the Mansfield Choral Society
and never missed a performance of the Mansfield Symphony.
She was a member of Kings Corners Everthoughtful Club, Richland County
Farm Bureau, and Farm Bureau Women.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn S. and Michael
Krotz of Columbus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald J. and Patricia
Popp of Doylestown and Dr. James A. and Jean Popp of Morgantown,
Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Jeremy Krotz and Jonathan Krotz, both
of Columbus, Rebecca Popp of Kent, Erika Popp and Andrea Popp, both of
Doylestown, and Candice and her husband Brian Snook of Atlanta, Georgia;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Popp, on January 24,
1987; two sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call Sunday, March 30, 2003, from 3-6 p.m. in the Lexington
Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held
Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Jack Sharp and the Rev. Cloyd Kress will
officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
