Elgin, Illinois

Died SCOTT- at Austin, Minn.

11/20/1880, Mr. I. P. Scott, formerly of Elgin, Illinois, age 71 years, 6 months and 16 days.

Deceased was born at Princeton, N.J. on the 4th day of May 1809 after which his parents moved to Westchester County, N.Y., and from there emigrated to Ithaca, Tompkins County, N.Y. in the year 1816 and at the proper age served an apprenticeship as a wagonmaker. After going into business for himself he married a Miss Wood, by whom he had one heir. He then moved to Cuba, Allegheny County, N.Y. where he continued the wagon making business and here his wife died leaving a babe, a daughter, and after a time married his second wife, a Miss Rowley, by whom they had seven children. In the year 1837 they came to Illinois, and settled in Elgin, continued the wagon making business for about 10 years, served in the capacity of constable for two years, and then commenced in the livery business, being the first stable kept in Elgin and continued it until 1854, when he moved his family to Strawberry Point, Iowa. For many years previous to his removal to Iowa he studied medicine with a view of practicing as a horse farrier, and now gave up all other business and practiced successfully until his death, having traveled a great deal in Iowa and Minnesota. His wife and four heirs survive him. Mr. E. D. Scott of Elgin, harness maker, is his son. The other heirs reside in Iowa.

The subject of this sketch was a man of temperate habits, cheerful temperament, kind hearted, very companionable, and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his loss.
