E. C. Rowley, Seattle, DiesEugene C. Rowley, 67, formerly a practicing lawyer here and brother of Atty. L. B. Rowley, died Tuesday at Seattle, Wash., after a year's illness. The body will be cremated at Seattle.He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Rowley, Madison. He was born at Ossian, Ia. Besides his brother, he is survived by the widow, Minnie Smith Rowley; two sons, Eugene, Jr., Washington, D.C., and George, Seattle and two daughters, Rose, and Emily, both married, one living at Seattle and one in Washington, D.C. Rowley was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin law school and practiced law in Madison for a number of years. He was a lieutenant of company G of the governor's guard of Madison. He entered the U. S. government service in 1912 as probate judge in the Indian department and later was appointed chief of the passport division of the state department at Washington, where he served during the war. He was sent to Seattle, Wash., after the war to open the passport division there and served in that capacity for the government until his illness several years ago and the attainment of his retirement age under government regulations. His son, Eugene Jr. is serving the passport division at Washington, D.C., the position formerly held by his father. |
