The name of Lucinda E. Rowley is written in front of the Bible, and apparently she was the original owner of the Bible. Beneath her name is an address: Magnolia, Rock County, Wisconsin,
and beneath that is her later married name, Lucinda E. Mitchel.
At the rear of the Bible is written, "1960 - Now property
of Mrs. James Kile (nee Cora Hatfield), 27 Grove Street,
Evansville, Wis." Eventually the Bible was purchased by Mr.
Jack Holzhueter of 816 State Street, Madison, WI at a
garage sale and he donated the Bible to the State Historical
Society in 1977.

[NOTE: There are some puzzling aspects to this bible. It was stated to be the bible of Lucinda E. Rowley. Yet, her husband, Cyrus Mitchell does not appear in it, nor any mention of a family with him. It is also called the "Reed-Rowley" bible. Amanda Marie Reed who married Alva Lewis Rowley is in it for both birth and death, and her father's family is there. What is missing is the marriage of her father, Joseph Reed to Wealthy N. Williams (who must have been the namesake of Wealthy Luella Rowley) and the recognition that Amanda Marie was their child. It may have been the bible of Lucinda Esther Rowley at some point, but the entries were made by someone else. - Tedd Rowley.]
