DEATHS

OVERBROOK — Opal Irene, 97, of Overbrook, died Oct. 29, 2004, at Brookside Manor in Overbrook.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Americus Cemetery. Friends may call at Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame 4 to 8 tonight. The family will receive callers from 6 to 8.

Houk was born Nov. 17, 1906, at Bushong, the daughter of Stella (Overwright) and Lee Rowley. She graduated from Bushong High School and lived most of her life in Lyon County.

On Dec. 19, 1925, she married Korah W. Houk.

Houk was a homemaker. She worked in a tent and awning factory during World War II and was a cook for the Chi Omega Sorority at Emporia. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church at Emporia and Winfield.

Her husband died in 1983. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin Houk, who died at age 14, and Arden E. Houk, who died Sept. 18, 2004.

Survivors include three daughters, Audrey Caywood, Winfield, Agnes Matson, Sun Valley, Calif., and Arlene Whorley, Manitowoc, Wis.; a brother, Omar Rowley, Udall; two sisters, Ora Lee Van De Kar, Lakeland, Fla., and Orvetta Cox, Fayetteville, Ark; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
