24. MATTHEW4 ROWLEY (Nathan, 3 Moses, 2 Henry1), b. Nov. 10, 1720, in Falmouth; d. there May 31, 1801, aged 80 years; m. Feb. 27, 1745-6, Christian Weeks of Falmouth, b. --; d. March 15, 1808, aged 92 years; the church record says aged 91 years. Matthew Rowley was a carpenter; lived at Woods Hole, on the Great Neck. Was grand juryman in 1767, surveyor of highways in 1758,1761,1772.

25 MOSES5 ROWLEY (Moses, 4 Moses, 3 Moses, 2 Henry1), b. Sept. 5, 1713, in East Haddam; d. after 1773, probably in Richmond, Mass.; m. about 1735-6, Mary ---. "Mary, wife of Moses Rowley, jr.,. admitted to church in East Haddam, Sept. 5, 1736," and she united with the church at Kent, Conn., on May 6, 1744. This Moses Rowley is found in many towns. Deeds in the several places show that he resided until 1739 in Middletown, Conn.; from 1739 to 1743 in Sharon, Conn.; from 1743 to 1745 in Kent; from 1746 to 1748 in the Oblong, N. Y.; and from 1748 to 1772 in Kent, and after 1773 in Richmond, Mass. In Kent he lived on a tract of land west of Housatonic river, which is described as being in "Scatacook," a part of Alger's grant. He also bought large tracts of Jabez Castle, and Robert Watson, and appears to have been an enterprising man. His dwelling was near Macedonia Brook in Kent, and near the line between Connecticut and New York.

bap. April 27, 1735, in Durham, Conn.; d. about 1773, probably in New Canaan, N. Y., dau. of Timothy and Mary (Robinson) Parsons of Durham, Conn.; m. (3) ---. The proof of the second marriage is found in Middletown (Conn.) Probate Records, Vol. III, pp. 40-43. His second wife d. before 1773, at which time she is called late deceased in the settlement of the estate of Capt. Timothy Parsons, late of Durham. Deeds in the several places show that he first resided in East Haddam, then in Colchester till 1751, then in Kent, Conn., and the Oblong, N. Y., until 1758, then in Great Barrington, Mass., until 1769, then in Richmond, Mass., in 1770, and in 1773. in New Canaan, N. Y. Perhaps also he may have lived in Stockbridge, Mass., for a time. He owned land there. In 1770, being then in Richmond, he conveyed lands to his sons Daniel Parsons, jr., and Reuben Rowley, although they were still minors.

28. SAMUEL 5 ROWLEY (Samuel, 4 Moses, 3 Moses, 2 Henry 1), b. Aug. 17, 1718, in East Haddam or Hebron, Conn.; d. about 1774, in Loudon, Berkshire Co., Mass., now called ---; m. Oct 11, 1744, Miriam Shailer, dau. of Abel and Mary (Parents) Shailer of Haddam and Bolton, Conn. He lived in Kent in 1753-55 and soon removed to Berkshire County, traces of him and his family being , found at Tyringham Equivalent, Becket, and Monterey. Before removing to Kent he lived a short time in Coventry, Conn., and perhaps afterward in Granville, Mass.

Dec. 17, 1727, dau. of Moses and Mary (Haskins)Cass of Hebron; d. 1794, at Shoreham, Vt. Deeds at Kent, Conn., show that he lived there from 1753 to 1758, and they also show a Thomas Rowley of Simsbury, Conn., and a Thomas Rowley of Westfield, Mass., who may or may not be the same man. He was called the " Green Mountain Bard." Extracts from his poems and a sketch of him appear in Hemenway's Vermont Gazetteer.

(2) Jan. 16, 1755, Hannah, dau. of Henry Curtis of Hebron. They had no children. The following epitaph is from the cemetery in Gilead Parish, Hebron, Conn.: "In memory of Mrs. Hannah, relict of Capt. Abijah Rowlee who died Oct. 18, 1812, aged 83 years. Also of Capt. Abijah Rowlee who left his native land for the defense of his country, died at Shoram, State of Vermont, Sept. 18, 1776, aged 46 years.

They lived in the southern part of the town of Chatham, Conn., near the later residence of John N. White. They were buried in a family tomb near their home, on the bank of Salmon river.
